John LeMieux is a Principal and Co-founder of Anton LeMieux Financial Group with offices in Falmouth, ME, Naples, FL and Daytona Beach, FL. He has worked as a college basketball coach and an adapted golf instructor.  He lost his left leg in 2012, from a recurrence of liposarcoma resulting in difficult rotationplasty surgery. Following 4 months of complete bed rest and an additional 2 months of non-weight bearing John began to rebuild his golf swing- eventually lowering his handicap to single digits. He is the author of a well-received memoir Life > Limb, My Journey to Becoming Whole.  John became a member of the EAGA in 2016.

John is the founder and Board President of the Amputee Association of Maine. In that role he founded the Gorham Savings Bank Maine Amputee Open, a two-day stroke play event for amputee, disabled and able-bodied golfers. In 2021 the Open celebrated its fifth year.

In conjunction with the Maine Amputee Open, the Amputee Association of Maine sponsors a golf clinic open to anyone with any type of disability. Over the years the clinic has partnered with Maine Adaptive Sports and Veteran Adaptive Sports and Training to increase the participation of the clinics. John is the lead instructor for the clinic and has worked with veterans with physical and emotional challenges as well as stroke patients, cerebral palsy and MS patients and trauma-based paraplegics. In addition to the clinic participants John has worked with PT’s and OT’s on how to implement golf skill development into rehab scenarios. He is currently working with a PGA Teaching Professional to develop a textbook for adaptive golf instruction. In addition, John lectures to third-year students in the Doctoral Program for Physical Therapists at the University of New England regarding amputation and best treatment practices.

John has a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education from Lyndon State College and earned a Master’s Degree in Adapted Physical Education from Indiana University. He spent 9 years as a college basketball coach, winning Coach of the Year honors in the New England Collegiate Conference (in his first year as a college head coach), led his teams to back-to-back Div. II ECAC championships as the Head Women’s Coach at Keene State College and founded the men’s basketball program at Colby-Sawyer College (formerly an all-female college)—leading an all-freshman team playing a Div. III varsity schedule to a winning record in the first year of competition.   John lives in Portland, ME, and Naples FL with his long-suffering (golf widow) wife Cindy.   John was elected as a Vice-President to the EAGA Board of Officers on August 1st, 2021, at our Annual EAGA Membership Meeting at the Seaview Dolce Hotel & Golf Club.  Welcome Aboard!
